The joy of modding is modding for firetruck sake.Tilemaps are a very popular technique in 2D game development, consisting of building the game world or level map out of small, regular-shaped images called tiles. This file locking feature sounds like the start of that Sims community all over again. We eventually closed the "The Sims" section of the site. A couple folks understood what we were offering but the vast majority was an angry, vindictive, name-calling mob. Their community was filled with hysterical concerns such as evil servers that allow people to steal pictures off of their websites by clicking and dragging from browsers. I went offering a free gift but you would have thought I was kicking over their sandcastles.
Almost to the man I was accused of trying to steal their stuff, pirate their creations as my own, and to steal their download counts for some reason I couldn't quite grasp. I came back from that thinking the Sims community was a bunch of paranoid assholes. We weren't getting any Sims folks to speak of so I went out into the Sims community to tell them about all that they were missing. the Marathon, Starcraft, and Myth folks jumped on it thinking it was a great idea.
When the Fileball game mod archive was a baby it had a "The Sims" section where folks could store their Sims creations for others to download much the same as for Marathon, Starcraft and Myth.
How are you going to make variants? Fix or update old favourites? Make personalized tournament versions? It's retarded.
